Welcome to the 614 DNA class, we love that you are interested in learning more about the heart of 614 Church. These notes should help guide our discussion, but as you read this we welcome an actual discussion to help you make your decision about where to be committed.
“…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:19
“And the good news about the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world so that nations will hear; then the end will come.” Matthew 24:14
“…They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on Him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
“…and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fulness of God…a deep, intimate, experiential knowledge of God, His will, His heart, His ways!” Ephesians 3:19
“For from Him [Jesus] and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37
“The best way to perceive your future is to look at your altar. You become what you worship.” -Alan Scott
We believe in offering our entire selves in wholehearted, expressive, and authentic worship to Jesus. True worship is about making Jesus the king of our lives.
“…and the second is like it; Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:38
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35
“Good sets the lonely into families.” Psalm 68:6
We believe each member of 614 Church to be fully invested and functioning in their gifts and life of the church. Each member of Christ’s body is indispensable for the growth of the other. We work this out through serving on teams, gathering together in the normal rhythm oath life of the church, and personal growth and devotion to God.
We believe that members of 614 Church are to have theological alignment on the core issue of the Christian faith: The authority and inerrancy of scripture, the nature of the one true God, the person of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and baptism. It is important to grow in a community with the “big rocks” of faith accepted by everyone in order to move in the same direction; the direction God leads.
Without a doubt, there will be differences in secondary or peripheral topics. These can create good debate and encourage others to more thoroughly study the scriptures and seek God’s guidance and wisdom.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
We believe the Lord has a specific purpose for which we are to live out on earth. Each day, each interaction, no matter how mundane or seemingly insignificant can be used to glorify God and make much of Him to the world around us.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
“…and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands. God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us…” Acts 17:26-27
“…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
“When Martin Luther gave us his revolutionary teaching about the priesthood of all believers, he was referring not just to the fact that the plowboy and the milkmaid could do priestly or liturgical work, but that the plowing and the milking themselves were priestly work.” C.S. Lewis
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.
Hebrews 6:1-3 (NLT)
…repentance from evil deeds…
Repentance is a willful change of the mind — a “turning away” from something in order to turn to something else.
…faith in God…
Repentance is turning “away from something…” faith in God is turning “toward God…
…instructions about baptisms…
Followers of Jesus undergo baptisms in water and baptism of the Holy Spirit.
…the laying on of hands…
There is something significant about the laying on of hands in prayer in the life of a believer.
…the resurrection of the dead…
There is a future hope we have of being physically resurrected in eternity with God and believers throughout all of time and history.
We believe that Jesus will come back and ultimately judge the world separating those who’re his, and those who reject him.
“Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.” Acts 14:23
Also reference: 1 Timothy 5:17 & 1 Peter 5:1
We believe God appoints a plurality of elders in the church for (1) direction of the church, (2) setting theological doctrine, and (3) discipline within the church among other things.
We believe that every member of 614 Church plays an important role in the life of the church and is necessary for us to function properly and from a place of spiritual health.
Ultimately scripture teaches that God has placed elders as the human authority in the local church, and will be held accountable to God with this privilege. Although we do not vote on topics concerning the direction and doctrine of the church, we value everyone’s input and weigh it up against scripture and the mandate God has given this specific local church body.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21
We believe giving is an essential part of the life of a follower of Jesus. Through giving we break the hold of the love of money in our lives, acknowledge that God is our true provider, and help support the mission of 614 Church and its impact in Columbus, in Ohio, in America, and places all around the world.
You can give to 614 Church with debit or credit cards as well as ACH
You can sign up for recurring ACH giving which is helpful to manage the church budget as well as your own personal budget
*Debit/Credit card giving costs the church roughly 3% of every donation received – you can offer to cover the processing fee
